One developer for the moment. Some people taken some tasks but I didn't hear from them since.:(
PGD is a good Pascal community. I post updates there.

How many developers are you ? Are you alone ? It's a pity you don't find more people, but there's an important community (Pascal Game Development) it's strange you don't find some more developers.
I'd like to help you, but I really don't have enough experience :(.
Wish for new updates :).

It's possible to bring the engine to modern technological level. But additional 2-3 developers are needed for that.

I've try on another computer (still with Windows 7) and this time it worked without bug or problem. So it can a problem of driver as you said.

Hope you'll keep developing this Engine. It would be very nice to have a strong and serious Engine in Pascal. (because for the moment if you want a good Engine -> C++ :( )

Thanks for the log. The problem may be also in driver bug. Driver update (or rollback) should help in that case.

The material system presented in the engine is a low-level one. More high-level systems can (and should) be built on that base. Even a material system/editor like one in Unreal engine 3.
SSAO is a post-processing effect. There are examples of post-processing in CAST II (bloom filter in Land demo). But it's also based on a low-level material system. A more usable post-processing system is in research state now.

You're right, I didn't see Pascal Headers for Bullet  :(. Well, Newton is really good too.
My problem can be a DirectX problem but if you've planned to upgrade you're engine to DirectX 10 or 11, then it shouldn't be a problem anymore in the futur  :). (I've send you the log file by PM).

Have you planned more complex Materials (NormalMap, ParallaxMapping, SSS, ect ) and Lighting (For instance SSAO)?
Thanks.

Newton is feature-rich (even GPU acceleration support) and it has official Pascal support. Is there any pascal header for Bullet?
In addition, like all subsystems in CAST II, physics subsystem will not be too dependent on its implementing physics engine. The last one can be changed just like graphics API.

Your screenshot looks like a z-buffer bug. I heard about problems with DirectX8 on Windows 7.
Can you please also send me engine's .log file? It can be found in same folder with demo or editor.

Thanks for answering so quickly  :).
I didn't know it was so easy to switch between Delphi and FreePascal. I've got an another question, which physic engine will you use. On your WebSite you've planned to use Newton (which is a good library for sure  ;)) but i think that Bullet is more advanced (Softbodies, used in commercial project, etc...), then it's maybe harder to implement  ???.

Here is a screenshot of my problem :

Hi and welcome, Hugo!
1. Many people use Delphi. Even old version -- Delphi 7 for example. So the engine supports both wide-spread Pascal compilers.

2. It's interesting. Can you provide a screenshot with the problems?

3. Yes. New DirectX versions are exciting. Also an OpenGL renderer is necessary for platforms other then Windows.

4. Yes I hope there will such versions at some point.

5. Of course it's not fully optimized. Optimization is a one of last stages of development. The engine is optimized on an architecture level. That means that many optimizations are foreseen in a foundation but only few of them are implemeted.
When you get closer to an emitter too many big particles are rendered which kill fillrate. It's hard to optimize this case but it's unlikely one.

6. Audiere used as a temporary replacement sound system because there is no fully-functional one yet. Most probable libraries for this -- OpenAL.

Many Questions
« Reply #1 on: January 28, 2010, 08:29:39 AM »

Hello everyone,
First I'd like to congratulate you for this engine. I'm a beginner in Free pascal (I've done program with Lazarus) and I'd like to know more about this engine. For the moment I don't have time to help you but I hope I'll have time (and enough experience) in the futur. Also , I've done 3D modelisation with Blender, so I'll maybe be able to make you some 3D model for your demos  ;).
But as I said for the moment I've only got many questions  :D :

1)I've understood that this engine is developed with Delphi and Free pascal. Why don't you only use Free Pascal ? (especially if you want to port it on Linux/MacOS).

2)I've try the demos and the editor and I've got problem with the graphics : the background comes over the objects, there's like holes in the meshes. (Maybe a problem with directX, refreshing or something (I'm under Windows 7))

3)Do you plan to use DirectX 10 or 11 ?

4)Will there be versions for Mac and Linux ?

5)Is it fully optimized ? I've got a good computer but the fps gets very low sometimes (for instance when I get closer to a particle emitter...).

6)For the sound system, I've read you're using audiere library. This library seems not to be up to date (I mean it seems to be an old library), isn't there more recent library with more features (which works with Pascal of course) ?

Thanks for your answers  :).
